STATE GOAL FOR SERVICES FOR GIFTED STUDENTS
Students who participate in services designed for gifted students will demonstrate skills in self-direction learning, thinking, research, and communication as evidenced by the development of innovative products and performance that are advanced in relation to students of similar age, experiences, or environment and reflect individuality and creativity. High school graduates who have participated in services for gifted students will have produced products and performances of professional quality as part of their program services.

STATE DEFINITION OF GIFTED/TALENTED STUDENT
§29.121. DEFINITION: In this subchapter “gifted and talented student” means a child or youth who performs at or shows the potential for performing at, a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experiences, or environment and who:
HJISD GIFTED AND TALENTED PROGRAM
Hardin-Jefferson’s gifted and talented program, Recognizing and Enriching the Academically Creative at Hardin-Jefferson (REACH), is designed to provide students with an opportunity to achieve their fullest potential. REACH students at Henderson Middle School and Hardin-Jefferson High School are required to take Honors and Pre Advanced Placement, and/or Advanced Placement classes where they will receive a differentiated curriculum and produce products and performances of professional quality.
Sour Lake Elementary School and China Elementary School uses the Texas Performance Standards Project curriculum, which is in line with the state goals for gifted students and was designed to enrich the student's learning through a variety of experiences. Strands covered in the program include creative thinking skills, critical thinking skills, affective needs, leadership opportunities, self-directed learning, research, and opportunities in technology.
